DSV A/S is a global freight and logistics company with operations in South Africa, among many other countries. 

The DSV Empowerment Trust is a trust tied to DSV’s South Africa branch. 

It’s intended to empower employees and their families by giving them access to tertiary education.

Fields of Study Funded

The bursary supports studies in any accredited field—diploma, degree, or course—subject to the minimum duration requirement.

What the bursary usually covers includes:

  1. Tuition/registration fees and prescribed textbooks.
  2. For dependents, possibly accommodation, meals, transport, and/or required study equipment, depending on individual financial need.
  3. Mentorship and academic support throughout the study period.
  4. The bursary is renewable each year, provided satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants typically must meet all of the following:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Be Black (African, Chinese, Coloured, or Indian).
  3. Be a permanent employee of DSV (one of its participating companies) or a legal/financial dependent of such an employee.
  4. Be studying or intending to study full‐time (for dependents) or part‐time (for employees) towards a recognised tertiary qualification (degree, diploma, or valid course) at an accredited public institution.
  5. The course must have a minimum duration of three years (excluding postgraduate studies) for undergraduate/diploma qualifications.
  6. Must have provisional acceptance or be enrolled in the upcoming academic year.
  7. Preference is given to dependents under a certain age (often under 25) for undergraduate courses.
  8. Applicants must show financial need and motivation. A good academic record is often required, sometimes with a preference for fields that increase employability.

How to Apply

  1. Download/obtain the DSV Empowerment Trust application form when the bursary call opens.
  2. Submit the completed application form along with all required supporting documents. Usually administered via Career Wise.
  3. Use any promo or application code if provided (for example, “DSVET2025” in recent cycles).
  4. The application method tends to be via email or via a dedicated online portal.

Required Documents

You will need to attach:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID.
  2. Matric certificate, ABET results, or Grade 11 final results (if still in school) certified.
  3. Full academic record to date, if already studying.
  4. Proof of employment at DSV (e.g., recent payslips) if you are an employee.
  5. For dependents: proof of relationship (birth certificate, guardianship affidavit) and a letter from the DSV employee confirming nomination.
  6. Proof of admission or provisional acceptance into a recognised tertiary institution, if not already registered.
  7. Motivational letter explaining why you should be awarded the bursary, your chosen field of study, and your future plans.

Closing Date

For the 2025 cycle, the closing date was 14 November 2024. There have been no 2026 dates yet.
