About the FEM Bursary
The FEM Bursary targets South African students from disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing undergraduate degrees in Engineering, Built Environment, or Health Sciences.

The FEM Bursary offers comprehensive financial support to successful applicants.
It covers essential expenses like tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, and a monthly stipend.

This bursary is awarded annually for one academic year.
Renewal for subsequent years depends on successful completion of registered modules, participation in community service projects, and meeting FEM’s requirements.
Notably, there is no obligation to work for FEM after graduation, recipients are free to pursue their careers anywhere.
FEM Bursary Eligibility Criteria
Before applying, ensure you meet the following minimum requirements.
Incomplete applications will not be considered:
- South African Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen.
- Field of Study: You must be enrolled full-time for an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Built Environment, or Health Sciences.
- Year of Study: Bursaries are not awarded to first-year students or postgraduate students. Applicants must have completed their first year of study.
- Institution: You must be studying at an accredited institution or public university in South Africa.
- Financial Need: You must demonstrate financial need and be unable to fund your studies independently.
- Household Income: Your total household income must not exceed R360 000 per year.
- Academic Performance: You must maintain a strong academic record.
- Previous Fees: You must not have outstanding fees at your university from previous academic years.
- Disadvantaged Background (Preferred): Preference is given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
How to Apply for the FEM Bursary
Applications for the FEM Bursary are exclusively accepted online.
Additionally, you must submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your application:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document.
- Certified copy of your most recent academic record.
- Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID documents.
- Proof of income for your parents or guardians (latest payslips, bank statements for employed individuals, affidavits for unemployed or informally employed individuals, proof of SASSA grants, disability grants, other grants or pensions, death certificates if deceased, or divorce certificates if divorced).
- Proof of registration from a tertiary institution for any dependent student(s) in your household (if applicable).
Please note that all certified documents must be no more than 3 months old.
All incomplete applications with missing documents may be disqualified.
