The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) plays a vital role in the province.

About the KZN COGTA Bursary

The KZN COGTA Bursary program offers financial support to deserving students from KwaZulu-Natal pursuing studies relevant to the department’s mandate.

The bursary covers tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation, meals, and a stipend for the duration of your qualification.

Here are some key highlights of the program:

  1. Fields of Study: Anthropology, Auditing, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Disaster Management, Electrical Engineering, Geographical Information Systems, Information Technology, Land Surveying, Law, Quantity Surveying, Risk Management, Supply Chain Management, Urban and Regional Planning, and Valuation. 
  2. Financial Coverage: Tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, accommodation, meals, and a stipend.
  3. Service Contract: Successful candidates will enter a service contract to work for the Department of COGTA for the same number of years as the duration of their bursary-funded qualification.

KZN COGTA Bursary Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, ensure you meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

  1. South African Citizen
  2. Resident of KwaZulu-Natal Province
  3. Aged between 18 and 35 years old
  4. Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  5. Pursuing or intending to pursue a full-time National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the approved fields of study
  6. Studying or provisionally accepted/ accepted to study at a public tertiary institution in KwaZulu-Natal (exceptions may apply)
  7. Candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply

KZN COGTA Bursary Application Requirements

To submit a successful application, you’ll need to complete the KZN COGTA Bursary Application Form and gather the following supporting documents:

  1. Certified copies of your ID document, Grade 11 final results & Matric mid-year results (if applicable), and Matric certificate (if completed)
  2. Certified copy of your full academic record (if already studying)
  3. Acceptance letter on the institution’s letterhead (if applicable)
  4. Proof of non-acceptance by KZN tertiary institutions (if applicable)
  5. Academic curriculum outlining the program structure
  6. Printout of tuition fees from the tertiary institution
  7. Certified copies of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents or death certificates (if applicable)
  8. Parents’ or guardians’ income and expenditure statement
  9. Proof of parents’ or guardians’ income (payslips or relevant documentation)
  10. Proof of residence
  11. Motivational letter outlining your financial circumstances and reasons for deserving the bursary
