The Ackermans learnership confuses people for one reason: it asks for retail experience. A learnership is supposed to be for beginners, so an advert wanting two to three years behind a till reads like a mistake. It is not. This is a supervisory-track programme, built to turn experienced shop assistants into the people who run a shift, and it recruits from a short list of suburbs near the support centre in Kuils River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That last line trips up more applicants than anything else. If you completed a SETA-funded learnership years ago, the SETA-issued certificate is the only proof accepted. Request a replacement from the SETA now, not in the week the advert opens, because they take time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Why the suburb list exists<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ackermans is part of the Pepkor group and runs its support centre and distribution operation in Kuils River, in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. A programme that trains people for that site recruits from the communities around it, partly for transport reasons and partly because these commitments are written into employment equity and skills plans. Applying from Khayelitsha or Paarl to a round that names Wesbank and Mfuleni is not impossible, but it is an uphill application and travel is on you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Filter by location for Kuils River or your own province, then scan for the word learnership.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Open the Candidate Connect option and create a profile, so your details are already on file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Check monthly rather than daily. Retail groups tend to advertise learnerships between the winter slump and the festive build-up.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Adverts are removed the moment a round closes, so a link you were sent on WhatsApp is usually dead by the time it reaches you. Always start from the careers site itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
