About the SASLHA Bursary
The SASLHA Bursary is awarded to third- or fourth-year students pursuing degrees in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology at accredited South African universities.
It is named after Myrtle L. Aron, a significant figure in the field of communication disorders.
The bursary is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need, with the aim of helping underprivileged students achieve their academic goals and contribute to the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
SASLHA Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the SASLHA Bursary, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must have completed your National Senior Certificate (Matric).
- You must be enrolled in a degree program for Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.
- You must have successfully completed your second or third year of study.
- You must be entering your third or fourth year of study at the time of application.
- You must be a student at a recognized and accredited university in South Africa.
- You must demonstrate a strong academic record.
- You must be able to demonstrate financial need.
- You cannot change your degree program after submitting your application.
- Preference will be given to SASLHA student members (membership is free – sign up here!).
SASLHA Bursary Application Requirements
To apply for the bursary, you will need to submit the following documents:
- Certified copy of your South African ID document.
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate.
- Certified copies of your most recent academic record or transcripts.
- Two testimonials from departmental staff or supervisors on university letterhead, highlighting your academic potential, leadership qualities, and why they recommend you for the award.
- Proof of income for your parents or guardians (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed).
- Death certificates (if applicable) if your parents or guardians are deceased.
- Three months’ bank statements from the individual responsible for paying your university fees.
- A short video recording (maximum 2 minutes) answering the following questions:
- Tell us about yourself.
- Why do you believe you deserve this bursary?
- How do you plan to contribute to the professions of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in the short and medium term?

To apply for the bursary, follow the following steps:
- Download the SASLHA Bursary Application Form from the SASLHA website.
- Complete the application form carefully and gather all the required supporting documents.
- Ensure all copies are certified.
- Create a short video recording following the instructions outlined above.
- Compress the video to less than 10MB.
