A number of public TVET colleges have residences at certain campuses, but many do not, and places are limited. NSFAS-funded students can also receive an accommodation allowance for accredited private accommodation, instead of a transport allowance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examples of TVET college residences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>College<\/th><th>Residences<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Northlink (Cape Town)<\/td><td>Belhar and Tygerberg campuses, plus an agreement with a private provider<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Boland (Western Cape)<\/td><td>Two of its five campuses; places linked to academic progress<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>West Coast<\/td><td>Citrusdal, Vredenburg and Vredendal<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Sedibeng (Gauteng)<\/td><td>None; the college says it does not offer accommodation<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>SWGC (Gauteng)<\/td><td>No residences at main campuses; farm accommodation being rebuilt<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NSFAS accommodation rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You get an accommodation allowance or a travel allowance, not both.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students living with family or relatives do not qualify for accommodation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private accommodation must be accredited, and NSFAS pays accredited providers directly once you have a lease and confirmed funding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Institutions should allow private accommodation only when their residences are full or they have none.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finding accommodation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ask your campus whether it has a residence and when applications open; it is often a separate application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask for its list of accredited private accommodation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait for confirmed NSFAS funding before signing a lease.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit before paying any deposit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beware of listings that ask for large deposits before a viewing.
