NATED engineering studies were the backbone of artisan and technician training at TVET colleges: N1 to N6 in electrical, mechanical and civil engineering, taught trimester by trimester. N1 to N3 closed in 2024 and N4 to N6 engineering intakes were the first to end in the current teach-out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Trade tests:<\/strong> the trade test regulations accept an N2 with mathematics, engineering science and a relevant trade subject, or a related N6, as minimum educational access.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The National N Diploma:<\/strong> N4 to N6 plus two years or 2,670 hours of workplace experience, completed by 30 June 2029.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • GCC applications:<\/strong> an N6 or N Diploma can form part of an approved route with a trade and experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    What replaces them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    QCTO occupational qualifications, including artisan trades such as electrician, fitter and turner, millwright and boilermaker, which combine knowledge, practical and workplace modules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Can I still study NATED engineering in 2027?<\/h3>\n

    Engineering intakes were the first to close under the teach-out. Most new students should look at NC(V) engineering or occupational trade qualifications.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
