The University of South Africa (UNISA) requires you to pass the Matric to apply.

However, there are alternative pathways for individuals with a Grade 11 qualification. Here are some of the options:

Finish Grade 12 first: Unisa does not offer a programme that replaces Grade 12. If you still need your matric, you must complete it through the Department of Basic Education (DBE) exams. You can then apply to Unisa with your final results.

Higher Certificates: Some higher certificate courses might have more lenient admission criteria. A higher certificate can provide a pathway to diploma or degree studies.

Bridging Programs: UNISA has occasionally offered bridging programs or foundational courses for those not meeting the direct entry requirements. These are designed to equip students with the necessary skills to pursue further studies.

It’s important to note that admission requirements may vary depending on the program you’re applying for. So, checking with UNISA directly for the most up-to-date information is best.

Can I apply at Unisa with my Grade 11 results?

If you are in Grade 12 in 2026, you may apply to Unisa for 2027 between 17 August and 9 October 2026.
