Can I Teach With a Grade R Certificate?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, a Grade R certificate alone doesn’t qualify you for a full-time teaching position in government schools.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) requires the Diploma in Grade R Teaching<\/a> (NQF Level 6) as the minimum qualification for Grade R educators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These are some of Unisa’s main admission requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Academic Qualification<\/strong>: A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 40% in the language of teaching and learning. Alternatively, a Senior Certificate (SC) with a minimum E symbol in Higher Grade or D symbol in Standard Grade in the language of teaching and learning may be considered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Experience<\/strong>: Proof of at least 12 months of permanent employment in a Grade R certificate class is mandatory. Volunteer or assistant positions don’t qualify for this requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The Diploma in Grade R Teaching is a phasing-out program with the last intake in 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Students enrolled will have until 2029 to complete the qualification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
