The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) works out your points from your best six NSC subjects and never counts Life Orientation<\/strong>. UNIZULU had not published a 2027 prospectus when we checked, so the minimums below come from the CAO Handbook for 2027 entry<\/a>, which lists UNIZULU’s 2027 requirements, and its 2026 undergraduate brochure<\/a>, Commerce, Administration and Law handbook<\/a> and Science, Agriculture and Engineering prospectus<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to calculate your UNIZULU points<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Convert each subject mark into points with the table below.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Leave out Life Orientation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Add your best six subjects, making sure the subjects your programme requires are among them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    This is the table in the Commerce, Administration and Law handbook. The Science, Agriculture and Engineering prospectus caps the top band at 7 points for 80% and above, so science applicants should count 80\u2013100% as 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    English 64% (5), isiZulu 72% (6), Mathematics 55% (4), Accounting 61% (5), Business Studies 58% (4) and Geography 50% (4) give 28 points, the minimum for the three-year BCom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The BEd Intermediate Phase and FET streams add subject rules; for example the maths and science stream needs Mathematics 5 and Physical Sciences 4. Consumer Science degrees and the Hospitality Management diploma need Life Orientation at level 4 as a subject, even though it is not counted in the points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Faculties and campuses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    UNIZULU has four faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences; Commerce, Administration and Law; Education; and Science, Agriculture and Engineering. Degrees are taught mainly at KwaDlangezwa, and Richards Bay offers certificates, diplomas and the BEng degrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Applying for 2027<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO), not on UNIZULU’s own site. Applications opened on 1 March 2026 and all UNIZULU programmes close on 31 October 2026<\/strong>. The CAO fee is R250 for South Africans (R300 international) until 31 October; changing your choices later costs R140. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a place.     Update note (checked September 2026):<\/strong> rewritten against the CAO Handbook for 2027 entry and UNIZULU’s 2026 faculty documents.
