Proof of that payment is one of the documents you submit with your application, along with certified copies of your ID and your results.

After you receive your offer of study, you will be given further instructions on how to proceed with registration and payment of other compulsory fees.

Registration Fee 2027 (Initial Payment)

The registration fee is the minimum payment you must make before completing your registration at TUT.

All students, both new and returning, are required to pay a minimum initial payment of R1 500 before they can register.

This amount serves as the first instalment of your tuition and is payable before you register. Bank payments take about three working days to reflect on your statement, while electronic payments at a TUT cashier counter reflect immediately, so do not leave it until registration day.

TUT’s 2026 fee rules also say newly accepted students must pay a R1 500 confirmation payment and register within three days of the date on their acceptance letter, or the place may be cancelled. Newcomers who pay but then do not register forfeit R220 of the R1 500.

If TUT allows you to register after the closing date, a late registration charge applies; it was R400 per registration in 2026.

If you are planning to live in university-managed residence accommodation, you will be required to pay a compulsory R1 200 residence advance payment before residence registration. No payment is needed when you submit the residence application form itself.

Tuition Fee Structure per Faculty

Tuition fees at TUT are not a single flat amount but are calculated per subject or module that you register for.

Each module has its own fee, listed in TUT’s separate fee publication, so programmes with more or costlier modules cost more.

This means your total tuition cost is based on the subjects you enrol in for the year.

TUT faculties include:

Faculty of Arts & Design

Faculty of Economics & Finance

Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment

Faculty of Humanities

Faculty of Information and Communication Technology

Faculty of Management Sciences

Faculty of Science

Tshwane School for Business and Society

Because tuition is subject-based, you can request an official fee quotation via the TUT Fees Quotation Portal.

Use it to request a quotation for your specific programme, and check which academic year the quoted fees apply to, because TUT’s Council can adjust fees without prior notice.

After the initial payment, the balance for a year programme is paid in nine instalments from 28 February to 31 October, according to TUT’s 2026 fee rules. Paying the full year’s class fees by 30 April earns a 5% discount, and households with two or more members studying at TUT at the same time can apply for 15% off class fees for the second student and 25% for each additional one. If you repeat a subject, you must pay the fee for that subject again.

International students pay an additional R1 900 per year on registration (2026 rate), as set out in the university’s fee policy each year.

How to Pay Your Fees (Bank Details)

TUT does not accept cash payments for tuition, registration, or residence fees on campus. Payments must be made using approved banking channels.

Details for official student fee payments include:

Student Fee Bank Details (Tuition and Residence Fees):

Bank: ABSA Bank
Account Holder: Tshwane University of Technology
Branch: Church Street West
Branch Code: 32-32-45 / 632005 (ACB)
Account Number: 405 314 2603
Reference: Your student number

Bank: Standard Bank
Branch: West End
Branch Code: 01-03-45
Account Number: 011 414 154
Reference: Your student number

SA Post Office Account:
Account Number: 024
Branch Code: 0001
Reference: Your student number

You may also use credit or debit cards, or bank-guaranteed cheques where accepted.

Always include the correct reference (your student number) so that the funds are applied correctly to your student account.

Keep your proof of payment, and check that the amount has reflected on your statement through your TUT student portal before registration.

Fees for NSFAS Funded Students

If you are funded by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), TUT lets you register without paying the upfront registration amount once NSFAS confirms your funding. In 2026 this applied to first-time students who applied to NSFAS before its closing date and to returning students who met the NSFAS criteria, and students who had already paid the upfront amount could ask for a refund.

Only students with a firm academic offer from TUT qualify, and if you are appealing an NSFAS decision you are treated as self-funded in the meantime, which means paying the upfront amounts while you wait for the outcome.

If NSFAS funding is not confirmed in time, you may still be required to make the minimum registration payment yourself to complete your registration.

Keep all documentation up to date and submit your NSFAS status as early as possible.

If you plan to study at TUT in 2027, you must understand the fees that apply during the application and
