They run from ten weeks to four years.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>National Certificate (Vocational), or NCV.<\/strong> A three-year programme from Level 2 to Level 4, certified by Umalusi. It is an alternative to Grades 10 to 12 for learners who want a career-focused school-leaving qualification.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Artisan trades.<\/strong> Apprenticeship programmes such as electrician, plumber and diesel mechanic, plus trade testing for people who already work in a trade.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Short skills programmes.<\/strong> Part qualifications such as CNC machining, small appliance repair and solar panel mounting, most of them paid for by the student.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The newer occupational programmes<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>These are the QCTO occupational certificates Northlink lists as its new programmes. The Panel Beater, Vehicle Painter and Solar PV programmes also need an occupational medical examination before registration, and the ECD programme asks for a police clearance certificate.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trades and other occupational certificates<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Northlink is best known in Cape Town for artisan training. Its apprenticeship-style trades run for three years (four for Millwright), need at least a Grade 9 pass, and are taught at Belhar, Bellville or Wingfield:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Belhar:<\/strong> Electrician, Plumber, Bricklayer and Carpenter (Carpenter needs Grade 11)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Bellville:<\/strong> Motor Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Boilermaker and Welder<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Wingfield:<\/strong> Fitter and Turner, Mechanical Fitter and Millwright<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>For these trades you must be able to register as an apprentice with an employer, pass an occupational medical examination, and apply for NSFAS. Hairdresser (three years at Parow, Grade 9 with Maths or Maths Literacy) is also NSFAS-funded.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Some certificates are self-funded, meaning you pay the full fee yourself: Sport Administrator and Sport Management (both need matric, at Tygerberg), the ITEC Beauty Therapist diploma, the PC Technician and Network+ course, and the Performing Arts qualifications.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">NCV programmes (Level 2 to 4)<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>All nine NCV programmes take three years, need a Grade 9 pass, and qualify for NSFAS:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>NCV programme<\/th><th>Campus<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Engineering and Related Design: Automotive<\/td><td>Bellville<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Engineering and Related Design: Fabrication<\/td><td>Bellville<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Engineering and Related Design: Fitting and Turning<\/td><td>Wingfield<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Finance, Economics and Accounting<\/td><td>Protea<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Hospitality<\/td><td>Protea<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Office Administration<\/td><td>Protea<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Tourism<\/td><td>Protea<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Primary Health<\/td><td>Parow<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Safety in Society<\/td><td>Parow<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Safety in Society, which leads towards the police, traffic, correctional and defence services, has extra conditions: a clear criminal record, a fitness test and a substance screening test.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The course lists above come from Northlink&#8217;s most recent programme brochure, published for 2026. The college says more programmes will be added, so confirm that your course is open for the 2027 intake when you select it in the application.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to apply online<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Northlink applications run through its Student Profiler on the college website. New applicants go through four stages:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Career guidance.<\/strong> Open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northlink.co.za\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">northlink.co.za\/apply<\/a>, create your profile and complete the career guidance questions, which point you to courses that suit you.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Placement assessment.<\/strong> Log back into your profile and complete the literacy and numeracy assessment and your course selection.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Course application.<\/strong> Fill in the online application form for the programme you chose.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Documents.<\/strong> Upload each document as a separate PDF into its own tab. Northlink then acknowledges your application by SMS and email.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>You can log into your profile on the Northlink website at any time to see the status of your application.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Documents to have ready<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>A certified copy of your South African ID, certified no more than three months before you apply<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>A certified copy of your latest results, also certified within the last three months<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Proof of address in your own name<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>For ECD Practitioner only: a police clearance certificate<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The upload tabs take PDF files, so if you photographed a document on your phone, convert it to a PDF before you start.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paying for your studies: NSFAS and fees<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>NSFAS funds TVET students from households earning up to R350,000 a year, and most of Northlink&#8217;s NCV, trade and new occupational programmes qualify. Northlink does not take NSFAS applications itself; you apply on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsfas.org.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NSFAS website<\/a>. As of mid-September 2026, NSFAS had not yet announced the dates of its 2027 application cycle.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>That timing means you should not wait for NSFAS before applying to Northlink. Secure your place at the college by 30 October, then apply for NSFAS as soon as its 2027 window opens.
