Drakenstein Municipality, which covers Paarl, Wellington, Gouda, Saron and Simondium in the Cape Winelands, runs one of the broadest municipal bursaries in the Western Cape. It funds residents in the engineering, finance, planning, public administration and social development fields a municipality needs, and also pays for artisan training and accredited skills programmes.
About the Drakenstein Municipality Bursary
- Degrees and diplomas: civil, electro-technical and mechanical engineering; accounting, auditing and financial management; town and regional planning; public management, human resources, law enforcement, firefighting and traffic management; community and social development; tourism and local economic development; architectural technology; and environmental, water, wastewater and solid waste management.
- Artisan training: building construction, diesel mechanics, electrical heavy current, plumbing and welding.
- Skills programmes: accredited short courses such as digger-loader operation, grass cutting, hairdressing, painting and welding.
- Covers partial or full tuition depending on the budget, paid directly to the institution.

- South African citizen aged 18 to 35.
- Permanently resident in the Drakenstein municipal area.
- Studying, or accepted, full-time at an accredited South African higher education institution or training provider.
- Demonstrated financial need.

- Attach a certified ID, your most recent academic results, proof of admission, the course details and fees on the institution’s letterhead, a utility bill proving Drakenstein residence and your parents’ or guardians’ proof of income.
