While receiving your results is a big occasion, you may find yourself questioning a particular grade.

Fortunately, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) offers a matric exam recheck/marking service, allowing you to potentially improve your score.

How To Request Matric Exam Recheck/marking

There are two main options for requesting a matric exam recheck/marking:

  1. Online Application: The DBE offers a convenient online service for applying for a recheck or remark.  This is the preferred method as it simplifies the process and allows for faster turnaround times.  To access the online application, follow these steps:
  2. Application Through Examination Centre: You can also obtain a recheck/remark application form from the school or exam centre where you wrote your exams. Complete the form with your details and submit it along with the required documents and fees to your examination centre.

The required documents for this include: a certified copy of your ID document and your official matric exam statement of results.

A fee is applicable for each subject you request a recheck/remark for. The current fee structure can be found on the DBE website or obtained from your examination centre.

It’s important to distinguish between a recheck and a remark. A recheck ensures all marks have been correctly added and recorded.

A remark involves a qualified marker re-evaluating your entire exam script, potentially leading to a higher or lower mark.

When Can I Request Matric Exam Recheck/Marking?

The DBE announces specific windows for submitting Matric exam recheck/remarking applications each year.

These windows normally open a few weeks after the official release of results and remain open for a limited period.

It’s good to stay updated on the deadlines to ensure your request is considered.
