MultiChoice, the group behind DStv and Showmax and now part of Canal+, runs one of the larger corporate bursary programmes in South Africa, awarding more than 230 bursaries a year. It funds students in the technology, engineering, data, finance and broadcasting fields that its Randburg operations depend on.

About the MultiChoice Bursary

The bursary covers, for one academic year and renewable on performance:

  • Full tuition fees.
  • Textbooks and study material.
  • An accommodation allowance.
  • A meal allowance.

Fields of study

Computer science, information technology, software engineering, data science, electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mathematics, statistics, accounting, actuarial science and broadcasting technology, at undergraduate, Honours and Master’s level.

MultiChoice Bursary eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen.
  • A first-time applicant for the bursary.
  • New tertiary students: a Matric average of at least 75%. Current students: an average of at least 65%.
  • Studying, or accepted to study, full-time at a recognised South African university in one of the fields above.
  • Demonstrated financial need.

How to apply for the MultiChoice Bursary

  1. Create an account on the MultiChoice bursary portal at multichoice.bursary.sv.co.za.
  2. Complete the online form and upload: a certified ID; your Matric results or latest academic results; the university’s acceptance or registration letter; your parents’ or guardians’ payslips, or proof of unemployment or a pension; and a CV.
  3. Submit before 29 January 2027. Shortlisted applicants are contacted for assessments and interviews.

MultiChoice Bursary closing date

Applications for 2027 close on 29 January 2027. MultiChoice closes its round in late January each year.
