The Unemployment Insurance Fund introduced the Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) to provide financial support to employees who suffered income loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though the core TERS program is no longer accepting new applications, the UIF online portal remains crucial for existing claimants to track applications, check payment statuses, and access important documents.

What is UIF TERS?

TERS is a benefit program administered by the UIF that provides cushioning for employed individuals who experience temporary or permanent income loss.

This could be due to:

  1. Shorter working weeks: If your employer reduces your working hours due to economic circumstances.
  2. Layoffs: If your employer terminates your employment due to reasons outside of your performance.
  3. Work stoppage: If your workplace is forced to close due to unforeseen events like natural disasters or pandemics.

TERS benefits are a portion of your usual earnings, capped at a specific amount.

The exact amount you receive depends on your income and the specific iteration of the program.

How to Login to UIF TERS

To check your UIF TERS application status or access other TERS functionalities, you’ll need to log in to the official UIF website.

Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Go to the UIF TERS Login Page: There are two UIF websites – one for filing employer contributions (uFiling) and another dedicated to TERS claims (https://uifecc.labour.gov.za/covid19/loginJsp). Access the TERS login page directly at: https://uifecc.labour.gov.za/covid19/loginJsp.
  2. Enter Your Login Credentials: You’ll need either your ID number or your UIF reference number (also known as the CK number) to proceed. If you’re unsure about your CK number, you can usually obtain it from your employer’s payroll department.
  3. Proceed or Recover Your Password: If you have your login credentials readily available, click “Proceed” to access your TERS dashboard. In case you’ve forgotten your password, click on “Forgot Password” and follow the on-screen instructions to reset it.
  4. Accessing Your TERS Dashboard: Once you’ve successfully logged in, you’ll be directed to your personalized TERS dashboard.  This dashboard will provide you with valuable information such as:
  • The status of your TERS application (submitted, approved, pending, etc.)
  • The payment history of your TERS benefits (if applicable)
  • Any outstanding documents or information required from your end
