Fields of Study Funded

Funding is available for students in the following fields and study levels:

  1. Information Systems (BCom 3rd year or Honours)
  2. Computer Science (3rd year or Honours)
  3. Business Science with Honours in IS/Computer Science
  4. Chemical Engineering (3rd year or Honours)
  5. Electrical Engineering (3rd year or Honours)
    Applicants must be attending one of these universities: Wits, Rhodes, UCT, UP, UJ, UKZN, or UWC.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Completed Matric with above-average results.
  3. Enrolled or accepted for full-time study (3rd year or Honours) in an eligible field at a qualifying university.
  4. Demonstrate a strong and improving academic record and financial need.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online via BSG’s official bursary portal. The application form requires:

  1. Personal details (ID, university, degree, academic average, etc.)
  2. A CV
  3. A “Why You? Why BSG?” letter outlining your leadership and outreach achievements
  4. Certified Matric results, ID, proof of address, photo, and proof of fees debited
  5. Details of any other bursary already received.
    Upload all required documentation through the portal.

Ensure your application includes:

  1. Certified copy of South African ID
  2. Recent photo (passport-type)
  3. Certified Matric certificate
  4. Academic transcripts to date (on institution letterhead)
  5. Proof of university fees charged for 2025
  6. Curriculum Vitae
  7. Motivational “Why You? Why BSG?” letter
  8. Proof of address
  9. Any other bursary details (if applicable) 

Closing Date

The application deadline for the 2026 bursary is 31 January 2026. Do not submit late because late applications are not accepted.
