Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, the Eastern Cape metro covering East London, Mdantsane and Bhisho, runs a mayoral bursary fund for local students in the technical and financial fields the city needs. Applicants are interviewed before awards are made, and the fund gives preference to young people from underprivileged homes.
About the BCMM Mayoral Bursary
- Engineering: civil, electrical and mechanical engineering.
- Planning and the built environment: architecture, building, facilities management, land surveying, quantity surveying and town and regional planning.
- Science: analytical chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology.
- Finance: accounting, actuarial science and economics.
BCMM Bursary eligibility requirements
- South African citizen aged 14 to 35, permanently resident in Buffalo City.
- In Matric, or with Matric or NCV Level 4 including Mathematics.
- At least a C for Mathematics, Accounting and Physical Science, and a D for English.
- Studying, or accepted, at an accredited South African tertiary institution. Preference for underprivileged backgrounds; students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
How to apply for the BCMM Mayoral Bursary
- Download the application form from buffalocity.gov.za or collect it from a municipal office when the advert appears.
- Attach a certified ID, Matric results or certificate, academic transcripts, your letter of admission for 2027, a motivation letter, proof of residency in the metro and proof of household income.
- Hand-deliver the application to the Special Programmes Unit, 7th floor, Trust Centre Building, East London, before the closing date. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed.
