The Chery Scholarship Challenge is not a normal bursary. The carmaker asks South African students to pitch a real advertising campaign for one of its vehicles, and the winner takes home a R250 000 scholarship, a 12-month paid internship and the satisfaction of seeing their idea run as a national campaign. It rewards creative ability rather than marks alone.

About the Chery Scholarship Challenge

  • Prize: a R250 000 scholarship towards tertiary study, plus a 12-month paid internship at Chery South Africa.
  • The task: develop a marketing or advertising concept for a Chery model, such as the Tiggo 4 Pro, which the company then runs as a live campaign.
  • Ten finalists pitch their campaign to a panel of judges.
  • Open to any field of study; the competition rewards creative thinking rather than a particular degree.

Chery Scholarship Challenge eligibility requirements

  • South African citizen aged 18 to 23 with a valid ID.
  • Enrolled at, or eligible to enrol at, an accredited tertiary institution.
  • Able to maintain satisfactory academic progress while holding the scholarship.
  • Not an employee of Chery South Africa or an immediate family member of one.
