About the Bursary

Leigh Day is a UK law firm dedicated to human rights, known for representing individuals affected by injustice worldwide. 

In partnership with the Canon Collins Trust, they established this scholarship to support students at historically disadvantaged institutions—enabling them to complete their law degrees.

Fields of Study Funded

The scholarship is specifically targeted at LLB students at two institutions:

  • University of Fort Hare
  • University of the Western Cape

Benefits for Recipients

The bursary covers university fees for the duration of study, enabling recipients to focus fully on completing their LLB degree.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must be:

  • Enrolled in an LLB programme at either the University of Fort Hare or the University of the Western Cape; and
  • From historically disadvantaged backgrounds, reflecting the scholarship’s mission of expanding access to legal education.
