Golden Arrow Bus Services Bursary Eligibility Requirements

  1. Applicants must be a South African citizen.
  2. Household income must not exceed R400 000 per year, or R600 000 for applicants with a disability.
  3. For the 2026/2026 cycle, the bursary is available for students studying BSc Computer Science from their second year or higher.
  4. Future or current students must be enrolled at a recognised tertiary institution.
  5. Applicants must be willing to work for GABS once they graduate.
  6. For some past cycles, a work-back obligation applied: recipients must work at GABS for one year per year of funding.

Golden Arrow Bus Services Bursary Application Process

  1. Prepare certified copies of the following:
    • South African ID
    • Previous academic transcripts (or Matric certificate)
    • Proof of enrolment or acceptance at university
    • Proof of household income
    • Proof of address
    • If applicable: a disability assessment report
  2. Complete the GABS bursary application form if required. For past cycles, this form could be requested by email.
  3. Submit your application and supporting documents via email to the GABS bursary contact.

  5. If shortlisted, you may be called for an interview.

  2. Accommodation costs, as per the actual cost charged by the tertiary institution.
  3. A textbook allowance.
  4. A monthly stipend to help with incidental and living-related costs. In past cycles, the stipend was around R4 000 per month, or another amount as determined by GABS.

Obligations for Recipients

Recipients must work for Golden Arrow Bus Services after completing their studies. 

The required period is usually one year of service for each year of funding received.

Academic performance must be maintained to retain the bursary.

Recipients must adhere to the terms of the bursary agreement, including possible relocation or work assignment with GABS.
