How Long Does an SRD R370 Appeal Take?

SRD appeals are decided by the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), not by SASSA. The Tribunal aims to decide an appeal within 60 to 90 days of receiving it, but busy periods can take longer.

The stages of an appeal

StageWhat happens

PaidIf upheld, SASSA pays R370 for the month you appealed.

Checking progress

Go to srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals, use the appeal status option, and enter your ID and cellphone number. See also how to check your SRD appeal status.

Avoiding delays

  • Appeal as soon as you see the decline rather than near the 90-day limit.
  • Choose the reason that matches your decline and explain it clearly in your own words.
  • Make sure the cellphone number you use is the one on your application, because that is where updates go.
  • Understand the evidence that helps before you submit. Our guide to SRD appeal grounds and evidence covers each decline reason.

While you wait

  • Keep checking your normal SRD status: later months are assessed separately and can be approved while an appeal is open.
  • Keep your banking details up to date so a successful appeal can be paid.
  • Do not lodge a second appeal for the same month.

Frequently asked questions

Can I speed up my SRD appeal?

No. Appeals are handled in order by the Tribunal. Making sure your reason is clear and your details are correct helps avoid delays.

What does “appeal dismissed” mean?

The Tribunal agreed with the decline, so that month will not be paid. You can still receive later months if you qualify.
