Annika Thambo started BursariesAfrica after a bursary funded her own degree. Today the BursariesAfrica editorial team researches, writes and checks the bursary listings, provider profiles and study guides on this site and in our Unisa, TVET, SASSA, universities and learnerships sections.

How a page gets published

Every page follows the same three steps, and you can see the result of each one on the page itself.

• A staff writer drafts from the source. That means the company’s own bursary page, a university prospectus, a SETA grant window or a government department’s circular.
• A senior editor checks the draft against that source. The editor confirms the closing date, the entry requirements and the application link, and corrects anything that does not match.
• The page is signed. It then carries the green Verified badge, the name of the writer and the name of the editor who checked it, so you can see who stands behind the information.

1,738 pages on the main site now carry an editor’s name.

What we will not do

A bursary page is only useful if a student can act on it, so we hold to three limits.

• We do not publish a closing date we cannot confirm on the provider’s own website. If the provider has not announced one, the page says exactly that.
• We do not send you to another bursary listing to apply. Application links point at the funder.
• We do not leave a passed date looking open. The status on each page is worked out against today’s date, so a bursary that has closed says closed.

What we cover

The team tracks 949 bursaries, scholarships and learnerships, and maintains 332 provider profiles explaining who funds them and what each funder looks for. Each writer works to their own areas: admissions and closing dates, NSFAS and student finance, TVET and college funding, or the provider research behind the profiles.

Tell us when something changes

Providers move their closing dates and retire their application pages without warning, and a page that was right in March can be wrong by August. If you find an outdated closing date or a broken application link, email contact@bursariesafrica.co.za and the editor responsible for that page will recheck it against the provider’s own website.
