What are the official SU application dates for 2027?

Stellenbosch University opened its online application portal for the 2027 academic year on 1 April 2026. 

SU closed undergraduate applications and residence placement applications for 2027 on 31 July 2026.

SU also runs a separate funding application window:

• For the 2026 academic year, SU opened funding applications on 1 October 2025.
• SU closed those funding applications on 31 October 2025, so check SU’s bursaries and loans page in October 2026 for the 2027 funding window.

The 31 July deadline applies to South African citizens, permanent residents and international students applying for the first semester of 2027.

Does Stellenbosch University accept late applications for 2027?

No. Stellenbosch University does not accept late applications for the 2027 academic year after the application period closes. 

The university’s own admissions FAQs clearly state that late applications will not be accepted.

The same rule applies to undergraduate admissions and many postgraduate programmes: SU’s “How to Apply” guidance for the 2027 intake gives firm closing dates and makes no provision for late applications.

Because SU is very competitive and receives more applications than it has available spaces, all candidates must submit before the official closing date to be considered for admission.

What was the official SU application link?

All applications for SU must be submitted through the official Stellenbosch University online application portal. 

There is no separate or special late applications link for 2027 entry.

Register a profile, upload certified supporting documents, choose your programmes and submit everything before SU’s closing date. For 2027 undergraduate entry, that date was 31 July 2026.

How to apply online to Stellenbosch University

To apply to Stellenbosch University in a future cycle:

1. Visit the official SU website: www.sun.ac.za and go to the “Apply” section.
2. Create an applicant profile using a valid email address.
3. Complete the online application form with personal details and programme choices.
4. Upload certified copies of your South African ID or passport, academic results, and any additional required documents.
5. Pay the application fee (e.g., R100 for South African applicants, different fees apply for business school and international applicants).
6. Submit your application before the closing date (31 July for undergraduate programmes).

Once submitted, you should receive a confirmation email with a reference number. You can use this to check your application status later.

What happens if I missed the SU application deadline?

Because the undergraduate portal for 2027 closed on 31 July 2026:

1. You cannot submit a standard application for 2027. Stellenbosch University does not allow late applications.
2. SU may offer reconsideration or waiting-list opportunities after it processes the final Grade 12 results. These are not late applications but internal reconsiderations for applicants who already applied. SU publishes the details after the matric results come out, so for 2027 look for them in January 2027.
3. You may contact SU Admissions to check if you were on a waitlist or if reconsideration options are available.
4. If you do not have an offer or missed the deadline entirely, prepare to apply early for 2028. SU opened its 2027 applications on 1 April 2026.

After applying before the deadline, you can track your application status using the SU applicant portal with your login credentials. 

SU also communicates admissions outcomes via email and SMS, so check your inbox regularly after submission.
