Fields of Study Funded

Adapt IT awards bursaries to full-time South African students studying the following disciplines:

  • Software Development
  • Information Systems
  • Finance
  • Business Administration
  • Business Development

Both undergraduate and postgraduate study years (1st through Honours) are eligible at selected universities. 

Benefits for Recipients

Successful candidates receive support that may include:

  • University registration and tuition fees
  • Funding for prescribed study materials or textbooks
  • A potential laptop or resource allowance
    Recipients may also gain access to career-aligned mentorship and internship opportunities, helping bridge education and employment. 

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify, you must meet all these requirements:

  • Be a Black South African citizen (African, Coloured, or Indian/Asian) under B‑BBEE definitions
  • Have completed Matric with a 60% or higher average
  • Be enrolled full-time (or intend to enroll) in one of the eligible fields listed above
  • Be entering 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or Honours year in the academic cycle
  • Attend one of the approved institutions:
    • University of Johannesburg (UJ)
    • University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)
    • Nelson Mandela University (NMU)
    • University of Limpopo (UL)
    • Central University of Technology (CPUT)
    • Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
      Failure to meet any criteria will disqualify your application.

How to Apply

  1. Create a profile on the BSP Fundi portal, the official bursary application platform used by Adapt IT.
  2. Download and complete the Adapt IT Bursary Application Form (PDF).
  3. When asked where you heard about bursaries, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za”.
  4. Upload all required documents via your Fundi profile before the deadline.
    Only complete online applications submitted this way are accepted. 

Required Documents

Ensure you submit certified (or clearly legible) copies of:

  • South African ID
  • Matric certificate (or latest academic record if still studying)
  • Full academic transcripts (for university students)
  • Proof of registration or acceptance letter
  • Fee statement or invoice from your institution
  • Proof of parents’ or guardians’ income (payslips) or affidavit if unemployed
    Missing any document may result in exclusion.

Closing Date

The official closing date for 2026 has not yet been announced. The previous cycle closed on 8 February 2024. 

Future deadlines could fall in early February. You should monitor the BSP Fundi portal after August 2025 for updates.
