VerifiedThe Moshal Scholarship Program, founded by entrepreneur Martin Moshal, fully funds academically strong students from low-income families through STEM and commerce degrees at eight South African universities. Beyond the money, scholars get mentoring, career workshops and membership of a graduate community, and the programme’s completion rates are among the best in the country.
About the Moshal Scholarship
- Universities: University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, University of the Western Cape, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of the Free State and University of Johannesburg.
- Fields: medicine, pharmacy (UKZN only), veterinary science; computer science, data science and information systems; biomedical, chemical, civil, electrical, electronic, mechanical and mechatronic engineering; actuarial science, mathematics, statistics and econometrics; and accounting, economics, financial sciences, investment management and management sciences.
- Covers full tuition, living and meal allowances and a laptop allowance for the full degree.
- Includes mentoring, career guidance, workshops and access to the Moshal community.
Moshal Scholarship eligibility requirements
- In Matric or completed Matric.
- At least 70% in English, Mathematics, and Physical Science or Accounting.
- Accepted, or applying, at one of the eight universities for a qualifying degree starting in 2027.
- Family income of no more than R200 000 a year before deductions.
How to apply for the Moshal Scholarship
- Go to moshalprogram.org.za, open the application portal and create an account. Applications can be saved but are final once submitted.
- Upload your ID, your parents’ IDs, your Grade 11 results, proof of grants or three months of bank statements, a passport or visa if applicable and consent forms if you are under 18.
- Submit before 31 December 2026. Shortlisted candidates are asked for Matric results, university transcripts, acceptance letters, National Benchmark Test scores and proof of income, and are interviewed before final selection.
