About the Organisation

AFHCO is a major affordable housing and commercial property developer in Johannesburg. 

The company runs a bursary programme for its residents and their dependents, aiming to help youth access tertiary education and build better futures.

Fields of Study Funded

AFHCO supports studies in any full-time, SAQA-aligned qualification of 12 months or longer at accredited South African institutions. There is no restriction on the field of study.

Benefits for Recipients

One bursary worth R50,000 is awarded. Funds are paid directly to the educational institution. 

Candidates are selected at random via an externally audited process to ensure fairness.

Winners must claim their bursary within 4 days of notification or risk forfeiture.

Eligibility Criteria 

To qualify, you must meet ALL of the following:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be an AFHCO resident or a dependent of an AFHCO tenant
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Be admitted or intending to study a SAQA-aligned programme lasting at least 12 months
  • Read and agree to the bursary’s terms and conditions, including media consent and identity verification
    Any missing requirement disqualifies your application.

How to Apply

  1. Download the AFHCO Bursary Application Form from the official AFHCO website or collect it from their Head Office.
  2. Fill it in completely and accurately.
  3. When asked where you heard about bursaries, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
  4. Collect the required documents (see next section).
  5. Submit all documents via email to info@afhco.co.za, with the subject line: “AFHCO Bursary 2026”.
    Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Required Documents

Your application must include certified copies of:

  • South African ID (or passport)
  • Grade 11 final report and Grade 12/latest matric report (if still in school) or Matric certificate and results (if completed)
  • Latest tertiary academic results (if already studying)
  • Motivational letter on bursary need and how studies would be funded otherwise
  • Testimonial letter from a teacher, principal, lecturer or dean on official letterhead
    Missing or uncertified documents may result in disqualification.

Closing Date

The 28 February 2026 at 17:00 SAST deadline was used previously. 

While the 2026 deadline is not yet confirmed, expect a similar closing period.
