About African Oxygen Limited
African Oxygen Limited, or AFROX, is South Africa’s leading supplier of industrial gases and welding products.
Founded in 1927 and listed on the JSE in 1963, AFROX is now part of the global Linde Group.
The bursary aligns with AFROX’s commitment to nurturing future engineering talent.
Fields of Study Funded
This bursary supports full-time undergraduate or higher study in these engineering disciplines:
- Chemical Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
Applicants must have excelled in their first year of study.
Benefits for Recipients
Successful candidates may receive support, including:
- Tuition fees and registration costs
- Study materials and prescribed textbooks
- Accommodation, meals, and laundry services
- A stipend to assist with living expenses
Renewal is possible based on academic performance and mandatory vacation work placements in June/July and December/January.
Recipients present their work to the Young Talent Development Committee.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, you must meet all criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be enrolled full-time in one of the eligible engineering disciplines
- Have achieved at least a 60% average in your engineering major
- Preferably come from a historically disadvantaged background
- Be committed to undertaking vacation work with AFROX during holiday periods
Applications missing any requirement will not be considered.

- Complete the online bursary application form.
- When asked “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
- Upload all required documents in one submission.
Applications may also be submitted via email or post as indicated in the portal.
Required Documents
You must submit certified copies of the following:
- South African ID document
- Matric certificate
- First-year university transcripts (or latest academic record if still studying)
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Motivational letter outlining your goals and financial needs.
Incomplete or uncertified documents may lead to rejection.

There is no fixed closing date for the 2026 AFROX bursary programme.
