About the Agricultural Business Chamber 

The Agricultural Business Chamber (Agbiz) is a leading association representing agribusinesses in South Africa. 

Established in 1946 and now operating across southern Africa, Agbiz works to promote development and economic growth in the agricultural sector. 

The Centenary Bursary Fund was launched to support postgraduate students in agribusiness-related fields.

Fields of Study Funded

This bursary is for postgraduate students pursuing full-time Master’s or PhD degrees in agribusiness management-related disciplines, including Agricultural Economics and related fields. 

Funding is available at any recognised South African university.

Benefits for Recipients

Recipients receive a bursary valued at approximately R45,000 per academic year. 

Funds are paid directly to the student’s university account, typically in February. 

The bursary may be renewed annually based on satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria 

You must meet all the following:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Hold a completed undergraduate degree or be in your final year towards such a degree
  • Have registered or are eligible to register for a Master’s or PhD in an agribusiness-related field
  • Be enrolled at a recognised South African university
  • Have achieved at least a 60 % average in major subjects
  • Preference will be given to females, previously disadvantaged groups, and applicants with disabilities
    Applications lacking any requirement will not be considered.

How to Apply

  1. Download and complete the Agbiz Centenary Bursary Application Form when available for 2026.
  2. Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions document.
  3. In the field “Where did you hear about bursaries?” enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
  4. Submit your application and supporting documents via email to [email protected] with the subject line: “Agbiz Centenary Bursary 2026”.

Required Documents

Attach certified copies of:

  • South African ID or proof of citizenship
  • Full undergraduate academic record (on institution letterhead)
  • Proof of postgraduate registration or university confirmation of eligibility
  • Recommendation letter from academic supervisor or head of department (max one page)
  • Motivational letter (one page) explaining your research proposal and reasons for funding
  • Declaration of any other bursary funding received
    Incomplete applications will be disqualified.

Closing Date

The deadline for the 2025 award was 2 December 2024. Agbiz has not yet confirmed the 2026 deadline. 

Do not rely on past dates. Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
