About the Artisan Training Institute
The Artisan Training Institute (ATI) was established in 1982 and is recognised as a technical skills training provider in Gauteng and by the United Nations University as a Regional Centre of Expertise.
The ATI’s mission is to develop skilled artisans through practical engineering training and community impact.
Fields of Study Funded
The ATI offers bursaries for training in key engineering trades via short‑course programmes such as:
- Engineering Trade Knowledge Component Course 1 (remote)
- NATED subjects programmes (online/distance learning)
These bursaries support foundational technical qualifications aligned with industry needs.
Benefits for Recipients
Participants receive bursary support valued between R5,000 and R10,000, depending on the specific programme.
The support covers course fees, remote online access, and assessments. The bursary is administered by the Knowledge Trust.
Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all of the following:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have completed Matric with Mathematics, or an equivalent N3 qualification to enrol in N4-level studies
- Demonstrate genuine interest in pursuing an engineering trade-based qualification
Applications will not be considered if the criteria are not fully met.

- Register for the bursary form online—some programmes use WhatsApp-based applications.
- When prompted “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
- Complete all required fields and upload your documents before the closing date.

- South African ID or birth certificate
- Matric certificate (showing Mathematics pass) or N3 certificate
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
