About The ATNS AIMO Bursary

The ATNS AIMO Bursary is a program designed to empower aspiring students who aspire to contribute to the aviation industry.

This bursary is not only a financial aid initiative but also a platform to nurture talent and promote educational excellence in the field of aviation.

Fields of Study Funded

ATNS offers bursaries for these aviation-specific training streams:

  1. Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO) – the focus of this article
  2. Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
  3. Target Generating Officer (TGO)
  4. Airport Management Centre Liaison Officer (AMC)
  5. Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

Benefits for Recipients

As an AIMO bursar, you will receive comprehensive training and resources, including:

  • Study at ATNS Aviation Training Academy (ATA) in Bonaero Park
  • Accommodation, meals, transport, and a monthly stipend
  • Coverage for core training, practical modules, and operational placement
    Additionally, training includes 21 weeks of theoretical instruction, practical application, and on-the-job operational duty. High-performing candidates may be offered fixed-term contracts or permanent positions within ATNS.

Eligibility Criteria 

You must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. South African citizen with a valid ID
  2. Matric certificate with Pure Mathematics and English at Level 4 (HG “D” or SG “C”) or higher
  3. Medically fit (particularly required for ATSO stream)
  4. Unemployed and between ages 18–33
  5. Willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa
  6. Have not previously participated in ATNS bursary programmes
