Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a leading cloud computing and AI provider. 

Its Skills Development Bursary in South Africa aims to support emerging talent in technology and innovation through full financial assistance.

Fields of Study Funded

Undergraduate Degrees:

  • Commerce (Accounting & Finance)
  • Education (Mathematics & Science)
  • Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics)
  • Computer Science & Computer Engineering
  • Information Technology

Postgraduate Studies (Honours, PG Diploma, Masters):

  • Commerce (as above)
  • Engineering (as above)
  • Computer Science, Engineering & IT

Additionally, students with disabilities are eligible in any undergraduate or postgraduate field, beyond the specified lists.

Benefits for Recipients

The full-cost bursary may cover (subject to a cap):

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Stationery, books, and study materials
  3. A personal computer or laptop
  4. Accommodation (university residence or private)
  5. Subsistence allowance

Eligibility Criteria ️

Applicants must meet all criteria below:

  1. South African citizen
  2. In Matric or completed Matric, or currently at tertiary level
  3. Planning full-time study in 2026 in a qualifying field at a recognized university in SA
  4. Minimum Matric scores:
    • Mathematics: 75%
    • Physical Science: 75%
    • English HL: 65% or English FAL: 70%
  5. If currently at tertiary level: Average of at least 65%
  6. Demonstrated academic merit, leadership potential, and financial need
  7. Preference given to students living with disabilities, though all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply

How to Apply

  1. Apply online via the StudyTrust platform. The application opens on 1 May 2026 and closes on 30 September 2026.
  2. Complete the form, upload required documentation (see below), and where asked “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
  3. Ensure your submission is complete—late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Required Documents

Prepare and submit the following clear, certified copies:

  1. Passport-style photograph
  2. South African ID document
  3. Matric certificate or Grade 11 and June results (if in Matric)
  4. Full academic transcript or progress report (e.g. June 2026)
  5. Proof of household income: payslips, affidavits, audited statements, bank statements, SASSA letters, etc.
  6. Parent(s)’ death certificate(s), if applicable
  7. Court letter or affidavit detailing child support (if divorced/separated)
  8. Proof of disability, if applicable

Closing Date

30 September 2026 (applications close at 23:59 SAST). Ensure you submit before this deadline.
