About the Organisation

The Donald White / Mandla A. Ndwanya Memorial Fund was established in 2012 to honour Donald White, an educator, and Mandla Andrew Ndwanya, from Nyanga, Cape Town.

It is a registered non-profit organisation (in the USA since 2017) that supports South African students (especially from the Western Cape) with bursaries for tertiary study, as well as school-level support (e.g., uniforms) in Nyanga/Gugulethu.

Fields of Study Funded

Applicants are considered if they are studying or intend to study in one of the following undergraduate fields:

  1. Business Studies
  2. Commerce
  3. Education
  4. Healthcare
  5. Medicine
  6. Social Work

Benefits for Recipients

  1. Two bursaries are awarded: one to a first-year student, and one to a continuing student (2nd or 3rd year).
  2. Each bursary is R10,000.
  3. The bursary is intended to cover registration fees and textbook/technology fees.
  4. It does not cover historical outstanding study fees, loans, or past debt.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  1. Have completed Matric (Grade 12)
  2. Attended a high school in the Western Cape province
  3. Study or intend to study full-time at a recognised FET college or University in South Africa in one of the eligible fields listed above
  4. Be in financial need
  5. Demonstrate passion for community service

  2. Complete the form, including all required sections. Be sure to fill in how you heard of the bursary (some calls ask for this).
  3. Attach required supporting documents (see below).
  4. Submit the application via email to [email protected].

Required Documents

You will need to include:

  1. Certified copy of your South African ID document
  2. Certified Matric certificate or proof of Matric results
  3. Full academic record if you are already studying
  4. Proof of household income (parents/guardians), e.g., latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of pension/SASSA, etc.

Closing Date

For the 2025 academic year, the closing date was 15 November 2024.

Applications submitted after that date were not accepted.
