It provides partial financial assistance to deserving students pursuing qualifications in Landscape Architecture at South African Council for the Landscape Architectural Profession (SACLAP)-accredited institutions.
The bursary is specifically aimed at promoting transformation and professional growth in the field, with a focus on financially needy students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
ILASA Bursary Requirements
The following criteria must be met to be eligible for the ILASA Bursary Programme:
- You must be a South African citizen or a naturalised citizen.
- You must be studying or intending to study toward a Landscape Architecture degree (undergraduate or postgraduate).
- Your programme of study must be registered and accredited by SACLAP. The currently accredited institutions are:
- University of Cape Town (UCT)
- University of Pretoria (UP)
- Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
- Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in the previous year of study (or Matric aggregate of 60% in English, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences for first-year applicants).
- You must demonstrate proven financial need.
- Preference is given to students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
Application Process for the ILASA Bursary
The application process is strictly managed online via the official ILASA submission portal.
Applications sent via email are generally not accepted.
- Download Forms: Visit the ILASA website under the ‘Opportunities’ section to download the official ILASA Bursary Application Form, the Bursary Policy, and the Bursary Agreement.
- Complete and Stamp: Complete the application form. Note that the declaration section typically needs to be confirmed and stamped by a Commissioner of Oaths.
- Gather Certified Documents: Ensure all copies are certified, with the certification not older than three months.
- Required Documents:
- Certified copy of your South African ID (and certified IDs of financial supporters).
- Certified copy of your Official Academic Record for the previous year of study.
- Financial Statements/Proof of Income for your parents/guardians (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or tax clearance if self-employed).
- Proof of acceptance/offer for study at a SACLAP-accredited institution in 2026 (if available).
- Motivational Letter detailing your academic ability, financial need, and career goals.
- Submit Online: Upload the completed form and all supporting documentation via the official ILASA online submission portal. Applications will not be accepted via email.
ILASA Bursary Coverage and Value
The ILASA Bursary is a partial financial assistance award.
- The maximum bursary amount awarded is typically R40,000 per student.
- The funding provides cover towards:
- Registration fees.
- Tuition fees.
- Residence fees (in exceptional circumstances).
- All payments are made directly to the tertiary institution or relevant service provider.
Closing Date for the ILASA Bursary
The official deadline for the ILASA Bursary application for the 2026 academic year is 28 November 2026 (at midnight).
You must ensure that the complete application and all supporting documents are submitted via the online portal by this deadline, as late applications will not be accepted.
