If you are feeling disappointed, stressed, or embarrassed about your 2025 matric results, that feeling is normal. Many students feel the same way every year.

But here is the truth: wallowing won’t fix your certificate.

What will fix it is taking action — and you have a limited window to do that.

You have until Friday, 6 February 2026 to register for the Matric Supplementary Exam 2026.

This guide will show you exactly who qualifies, how to apply online, and what documents you need today so you don’t miss your second chance.

Who Qualifies for the Matric Supplementary Exam 2026?

Many students panic because they are not sure if they are “allowed” to rewrite. Let’s clear the confusion.

You qualify for the Matric Supplementary Exam 2026 if any of the following apply to you:

1. You Failed One or Two Subjects

If you failed only one or two subjects in your 2025 matric results, you are eligible to rewrite those subjects.

This is the most common group of candidates.

2. You Missed an Exam for Medical Reasons

If you missed a paper due to illness or another medical issue, you can apply as long as you have a valid doctor’s note as proof.

3. You Want to Improve Your Marks (Upgrading)

If you passed but are unhappy with your marks and want to improve them, you can register as an upgrade candidate.

Important:
The supplementary exam series normally takes place in May/June 2026, not immediately after results are released.

How to Register for Matric Supplementary Exam 2026

There are two ways to register. Always try online first, but be ready with a backup.

Option A: Online Registration (Recommended)

This is the fastest method if the system is working.

Official portal:
www.eservices.gov.za

Step-by-Step Online Registration:

  1. Visit www.eservices.gov.za
  2. Create an account or log in
  3. Select “Matric Services”
  4. Choose “Registration”
  5. Follow the prompts and submit your application

The website often becomes slow or crashes close to deadlines. Do not wait until February 5.

Option B: Register at a District Education Office (Backup Plan)

If the online system is not working, go in person to your nearest District Education Office.

Officials there can help you register manually and avoid missing the deadline.

Documents You Need to Register

Before you start, make sure you have all of these ready:

  • Statement of Results (Class of 2025)
  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Working email address
  • Active cell phone number

Having these ready will save you hours of stress.
