The Overberg Water Finance Graduate post closed on 4 September 2026, and the water board has not announced its next graduate intake.
Overberg Water is a bulk water board that supplies drinking water to towns such as Caledon, Napier, Bredasdorp, Swellendam, Heidelberg and Riversdale in the southern Western Cape. It reports to the national Department of Water and Sanitation and is run from a corporate office in Somerset West. Each year since at least 2024 it has advertised a small number of 36-month graduate contracts at that office, mostly in finance. These are paid work-experience posts for new graduates, not study funding.
The 2026 Finance Graduate intake
The most recent advert, reference OW-FINGRAD26, sought two graduates for the Finance Department at the Somerset West corporate office. The contract runs for 36 months, the advertised salary is R10,000, and the start date was set for 15 September 2026. Applications closed at 17:00 on Friday 4 September 2026.
Overberg Water’s minimum requirements for the 2026 posts were:
- a BCom Accounting degree or an equivalent tertiary qualification in accounting or finance at NQF level 6 or 7;
- basic knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- South African citizenship.
The advert also lists the working style the water board wants: accuracy and attention to detail, willingness to work overtime, and the ability to cope with deadlines in a demanding environment as part of a team. Candidates living in the Western Cape receive preference, and so do people from designated employment equity groups.
Graduate posts in earlier years
The closed adverts still listed on the Overberg Water careers page show that the fields change from year to year. All were 36-month contracts in Somerset West.

The human resources graduates assisted with recruitment and selection, performance management, learning and development, payroll, labour relations and benefits. The performance information graduate worked on the annual report, strategic plans, quarterly reporting and the annual performance plan. A further Performance Information Graduate post closed on 18 November 2024. Overberg Water does not state the salary period on these adverts.
Applying through the direct-hire portal
For the 2026 post, applicants uploaded a comprehensive CV, certified copies of qualifications and their identity document to the Overberg Water external applicants portal, quoting the post reference. The 2025 adverts asked for the same documents by email to recruitment@overbergwater.co.za. The portal lets graduates upload a CV to a database even when no post is open, and has a Student/Graduate work level filter for searching. Late applications are not accepted, the board may decide not to fill a post, and anyone who has not heard back within 30 days of the closing date should consider the application unsuccessful.
Overberg Water has not said when its next graduate post will be advertised. Other public-sector placements for graduates are gathered on the government internships page. Students still studying toward a finance qualification can look at the accounting bursaries list, and the parent department’s study funding is on the Department of Water and Sanitation bursary page.
