SAB SAICA Trainee Accountant Programme

The South African Breweries (SAB) is now an accredited SAICA training office, which means Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) graduates can serve their chartered accountancy training contract inside the brewer rather than at an audit firm. SAB runs this as the DynamX Finance Management Trainee Programme, a 36-month contract at its head office in Sandton. The advert, titled SAICA Trainee Accountant (job 30069006), went up on the SAB careers portal on 14 August 2025 and remained open to applicants on 27 September 2026, with no closing date.

Articles in industry instead of at an audit firm

At a training office in commerce, the SAICA training contract is served inside a company’s finance function rather than on external audit clients. SAB describes the programme as structured training with exposure to accounting, auditing, taxation and financial management, delivered through rotations across departments in the finance function that are aligned to SAICA’s training regulations.

Trainees are mentored by chartered accountants already working at SAB and receive continuing professional development and support towards the CA(SA) qualification. The advert does not state a salary, whether SAB pays for board exam preparation, or how many trainees it takes.

Where SAB says the programme leads

SAB says trainees who complete the 36 months can expect opportunities to move into middle management within SAB Finance, in areas such as:

• accounts to report management
• risk management
• tax management
• cash and treasury management
• finance management and financial control

That is described as an opportunity, not a guaranteed post.

PGDA graduates, no experience needed

The single academic requirement is a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, either completed or in its final year, from a SAICA-endorsed and recognised academic programme. Students writing their PGDA (CTA) exams at the end of 2026 can therefore apply now. No previous work experience is required.

SAB lists the skills and attributes it looks for: analytical and problem-solving ability, communication and interpersonal skills, competence with accounting software and Microsoft Office, accuracy, the ability to work alone and in a team, integrity, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to manage several tasks against deadlines. Appointments follow SAB’s employment equity plan, and SAB may use information beyond the minimum requirements to shortlist.

Applying on the AB InBev Workday portal

SAB is part of AB InBev, and its vacancies sit on the group’s Workday system. The SAB careers page links to the portal, and the trainee accountant post is at SAICA Trainee Accountant, HQ Sandton. Applicants create a Workday candidate account, then apply to the post. Because the advert has been open for more than a year and gives no closing date, it appears to work as a standing intake; it could be withdrawn without notice.

The same portal also lists SAB’s general DynamX Trainee Programme, a 24-month rotational programme for graduates in finance, HR, marketing, technology, engineering and supply chain. That listing still refers to a 2024 start date, so it is not a reliable guide to a current intake.
