As April ends, SASSA beneficiaries look ahead to the May payment dates.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) distributes several permanent grants to assist financially vulnerable individuals living in South Africa.

SASSA grants paid in May 2026

SASSA grants include:

  • Older Person’s pension grant
  • Disability grant
  • War Veterans grant
  • Care Dependency Grant
  • Foster Child Grant
  • Child Support Grant
  • Child Support Grant Top-Up
  • Grant-in-aid

Approximately 18 million South Africans receive Sassa grants every month, usually in the first week of each month.

SASSA Grant Payment Dates for May

  • Older persons grant: 5 May 2026
  • Disability grants: 6 May 2026
  • Children’s Grants: 7 May 2026

SASSA has confirmed that social grant payments are made from the second working day of each month. However, payments will not be made on public holidays or weekends.

2026 SASSA Grant Increased

In February 2026, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the 2026 SASSA grant increases during his 2026 Budget Speech. The Social Development Minister has now confirmed the grant increases.
