VerifiedThe South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the old age grant payment date for October 2026, along with the rest of the October schedule.
SASSA Old Age Grant Amount in October 2026
The grant amounts did not change in October. SASSA increased grants in April 2026, following the February 2026 Budget: older persons, disability and care dependency R2 400, war veterans R2 420, foster child R1 290, child support and grant-in-aid R580, and the SRD R370.
- Old Age Grant: R2 320 (previously R2 310)
- Old Age Grant (75 years and older): R2 340 (previously R2 330)
- War Veterans Grant: R2 340 (previously R2 330)
- Disability Grant: R2 320 (previously R2 310)
- Care Dependency Grant: R2 320 (previously R2 310)
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou confirmed that the agency is ready for the October payment cycle and welcomed the adjustment, saying it provides needed relief to many households.
SASSA Old Age Grant Payment Date – October 2026
The SASSA old age grant payment date for October 2026 is:
- Friday, 2 October 2026, with disability grants on Monday, 5 October and children’s grants on Tuesday, 6 October
Other grants will follow after the Old Age Grant has been processed:
- Disability Grants: Friday, 3 October 2026
- Children’s Grants: Monday, 6 October 2026
SASSA reminded beneficiaries that they do not need to rush on the first day, as funds remain in their accounts until withdrawn. Payments can be accessed through beneficiaries’ own bank accounts, Postbank cards at ATMs, or participating retailers.
Court Ruling on Postbank Agreement
SASSA also welcomed a ruling from the North Gauteng High Court, which struck off Postbank’s urgent application regarding the termination of the Master Services Agreement (MSA).
Judge C. Collis found that the matter lacked urgency, since Postbank was aware of the planned termination since March 2026.
SASSA assured beneficiaries that this change will not affect grant payments.
“All Old Age Grant beneficiaries and others receiving their money through Postbank accounts will continue to be paid,” said CEO Themba Matlou. “Beneficiaries are also free to open an account with any bank of their choice, and we assist them in this process.”
