How long is the NSFAS Validation Period?

NSFAS does not publish a fixed “validation period”. The word is used online for several different checks that happen at different times. Knowing which check you are waiting for tells you roughly how long it takes and what you can do.

The checks behind “validation”

Household income verification	After you apply; the signed consent form allows it	Upload a correctly signed consent form

The 2026 cycle as an example

• First-time applicants’ funding decisions were released from 15 December 2025, and NSFAS said all 2026 decisions were completed by 31 December 2025.
• Institutions could upload registration data from 5 January to 31 March 2026.
• The first registration cut-off for TVET colleges was 27 January 2026.

If you are already funded and NSFAS asks you for documents, its 2026 policy gives you 10 days to respond.

Why a status can stay unchanged

• Your institution has not yet uploaded your registration.
• A document is missing or unreadable.
• A parent’s or spouse’s details need verification.
