A pending application means the college has received your application but has not made a decision yet. At TVET colleges this is common for weeks after applications close, because colleges check documents, place applicants in programmes and sometimes run placement assessments first.

Why a TVET application stays pending
| Reason | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Documents are incomplete or unreadable | Upload clear copies of your ID, results and proof of residence |
| Results are still outstanding | Submit your final results as soon as you receive them |
| Placement or assessment is still to happen | Watch for an SMS or email inviting you to a test or orientation |
| The programme is full and you are on a waiting list | Ask whether an alternative programme or campus has space |
| Selection is done in batches after closing | Wait until the college’s published decision date |
How long to wait
Colleges usually process applications after their closing date, and many finish close to registration. If your application is still pending near the start of registration, contact the campus admissions office with your application or student number.
Pending at the college vs pending at NSFAS
These are separate processes. The college decides whether you have a place; NSFAS decides whether you get funding, and it can only fund you once the college confirms your registration. Check each on its own portal. For NSFAS statuses, see NSFAS application statuses explained.
Frequently asked questions
Does pending mean my TVET application was rejected?
No. Pending means no decision has been made yet.
Should I apply to more than one TVET college?
