UJ’s late enquiry process is strictly online. There are no walk-ins at any campus for this service.

It lets applicants see if they qualify for available study spaces or change to another course if spaces remain after the release of final Grade 12 results.

What Is UJ’s Late Enquiry System for 2026?

UJ’s late enquiry system is an online portal that opens for a short period in January or early February each year.

It is designed for applicants who:

  1. Missed the main application deadline.
  2. Want to check if UJ still has space in their chosen programme.
  3. Want to inquire about switching to another qualification with available space.

The system shows only qualifications where UJ still has space and where applicants meet the minimum entrance requirements.

UJ makes selections after receiving final Grade 12 results, and applicants are informed of outcomes within a few working days of submitting an enquiry.

When Did the 2026 Late Enquiry Window Open and Close?

For the 2026 academic year, UJ’s late enquiry system opened in mid-January and closed later that month.

The exact dates in 2026 were from about 20 January 2026 to 26 January 2026.

During this period, applicants could log into the system and submit their enquiries.

It is important to note that these dates are specific to the 2026 cycle and may change each year depending on institutional planning and the release of final matric results.

How Do You Check Your UJ Late Enquiry Status Online?

Once you have submitted a late enquiry, you can check your status by using UJ’s online status portal.

The late enquiry system and the general application status system work together to show whether your late enquiry was successful or not.

To check your status online, you should:

  1. Visit the official UJ website.
  2. Go to the Admissions or Application Status section.
  3. Select the option to check the application/late enquiry status.
  4. Enter your UJ student number, South African ID number, or Grade 12 examination number.
  5. Once authenticated, the portal will show your current status.

Statuses you may see include whether your late enquiry is still under review, successful, or unsuccessful.

Read any notes carefully, as the university may request additional documentation before final admission.

What Happens After You Submit a Late Enquiry?

UJ will conduct a final selection process after the release of the final Grade 12 results.

The university informs applicants of the outcome of their late enquiry within around 5 working days through official communication channels such as SMS or email.

You are not required to visit any campus to confirm your status.

If you do not receive an SMS or email within the expected timeframe, you should use the online status portal or contact UJ directly by phone.

What Should You Do If You Have Not Received a Response?

If you have not been informed of your late enquiry outcome within the typical timeframe after submission:

  1. Return to the online status portal and check again.
  2. Contact the UJ Call Centre at 011 559 4555 for more information.
  3. Ensure you check email and SMS messages carefully, as official updates are sent through these channels.

Remember that UJ continues to warn applicants about fraudulent individuals or groups offering paid assistance with late enquiries.

UJ’s late enquiry process is always free, and you should never pay for help with late applications or status checks.

What Do Different Responses Mean?

When you check your status online after a late enquiry, you may see:

  1. Under Review
This means UJ is still processing your enquiry and has not yet made a decision.
  2. Successful/Admitted
Your enquiry indicates available space in a programme, and UJ has admitted you to that qualification. Follow the registration instructions provided.
  3. Unsuccessful/No Space
This means UJ does not have available space in the qualification you enquired about, or you did not meet the minimum requirements.

Keep in mind that late enquiry outcomes depend on space availability and how many offers accepted applicants have already confirmed.

What Comes Next After a Successful Late Enquiry?

If your late enquiry at UJ is successful:

  1. You will receive an official communication with details on how to register for your programme.
  2. Follow the registration instructions carefully and complete all steps before the registration deadline.
  3. Ensure you submit any outstanding documents or payments required for registration.

If your enquiry was unsuccessful, consider alternative options such as applying for other institutions, exploring change-of-mind options, or using the Central Application Service (CAS) to seek other study offers.
