SPU offers undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications across faculties such as Education, Economic and Management Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Humanities.

Students must understand the different components of costs, including application, registration and tuition, before applying and registering for study.

Sol Plaatje University Application Fee 2027 (Non‑refundable)

SPU’s applicant FAQ states that there is no application fee to apply online, and applications for the 2027 academic year (undergraduate and postgraduate) are open until 31 October 2026.

The application process is free of charge, and applicants submit all required documents through the university’s official portal.

Because SPU makes all admissions announcements through official channels on its website and verified social accounts, students should ignore claims of unofficial application fees circulating on social media.

Sol Plaatje University Registration Fee 2027 (Initial Payment)

When you are offered a study place, SPU requires students to make certain upfront payments before registration can be completed.

These payments are not technically described as “application fees” but they act as initial registration requirements that confirm your intention to register and secure your study place.

SPU’s Financial Registration Guidelines 2026 set these minimum amounts for self-funded students. The 2027 guidelines have not been released yet, so expect the figures to be updated:

  1. Academic registration fee: R6 000, payable before registration by students who are not funded.
  2. Residence/accommodation fee: a further R6 000, payable only by confirmed residence students.
  3. Funded students (recognised bursary or scholarship holders, and students on the NSFAS-funded list) make no upfront payment, but must email their award letter to finance.enquiries@spu.ac.za before registration.

The amounts you pay at registration are credited to your student fee account and count towards your total fees for the year. If you cannot afford the upfront payment, SPU lets you submit a motivation letter with supporting documents to its Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee (financialappeal@spu.ac.za) before registration.

Sol Plaatje University Tuition Fee Structure per Faculty

SPU tuition fees vary according to your qualification and level of study, and final 2027 figures will be published on the SPU website.

SPU’s website does not currently list tuition fees per programme, so we have not quoted amounts here. As a general guide:

  • Undergraduate degrees and diplomas: tuition depends on the qualification and the modules you take in each year of study.
  • Postgraduate programmes (Honours, Masters): fees are set per qualification, so ask the finance office for the amount for your programme.

For a fee quote, contact SPU’s Financial Aid and Student Debtors offices at finance.enquiries@spu.ac.za.

Because SPU tuition fees are specific to each qualification, students should review the official fee schedule or request a detailed quotation from the SPU student fees office when registering.

Sol Plaatje University Fees for NSFAS Funded Students

If you qualify for funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), you must ensure your application on the official NSFAS portal is approved before registration starts.

Once confirmed:

  1. NSFAS will cover your tuition fees directly to SPU.
  2. Students on the NSFAS-funded list (first-time entering and returning undergraduates) make no upfront payment at registration.
  3. Email your award letter to finance.enquiries@spu.ac.za before registration.

NSFAS funding may also include allowances for accommodation and study materials depending on the type and level of your award.
