Grade 12 Re-mark Fees: How Much Does a Matric Remark Cost?

If you think your Matric National Senior Certificate (NSC) results do not reflect your actual performance, you can apply for a re‑check, remark, or viewing of your exam scripts.

These services help ensure your marks are correct and can sometimes improve your final results.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) allows candidates to submit these requests shortly after results are released.

What Is a Remark and How Is It Different from a Re‑Check?

A remark means your exam script is thoroughly re‑assessed by a different marker to check that all answers were marked correctly and fairly.

A re‑check looks only at whether all answers were marked and the totals were calculated correctly.

Both services are official options if you are unhappy with your results.

Matric Remark Fees

For learners who wrote the November 2025 exams and checked their results in January 2026, the official remark costs are set per subject:

• Remark: R120 per subject.
• Re‑check: R30 per subject.
  These fees apply each time you request the service for an individual subject.

Viewing Your Script After a Remark or Re‑Check

If you want to view your exam script after the remark or re‑check has been completed, there is an additional fee.

The viewing fee allows you to see how your answers were marked:

• Viewing of script: Around R230 after the remark or re‑check process.

Who Pays the Fees?

All candidates who apply for remarking or re‑checking must pay the applicable fees at the time of application.

However, learners who are registered full‑time at no‑fee public schools may be able to apply for a rebate or exemption for the remark/re‑check fees through their school or district if they qualify.

When to Apply and Pay

Remark and re-check applications open when the matric results come out in January and close about two weeks later. For the Class of 2025, they closed on 27 January 2026, so expect a late-January 2027 deadline for the Class of 2026.

You can submit your application and payment at your school, district education office, or online through the DBE’s e‑Services portal.

What Happens After You Apply?

After you submit your application and pay the fees:

1. The script is re‑checked or remarked by authorised examiners.
2. Remark results usually come out about two months after results day. For the Class of 2025, they arrived by March 2026.
3. If your mark increases to a higher level after remarking, you may qualify for a refund of the remark fee at certain levels (province‑specific procedures may apply).
