About African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation
The African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation (AEMFC) is a South African state-owned mining company under the Central Energy Fund.
Founded in 1944 and reactivated in 2007, it manages the Vlakfontein coal mine in Mpumalanga.
AEMFC aims to support future mining and engineering professionals through its scholarship programme.
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary supports full-time study in these STEM fields at accredited South African institutions:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
Preference is given to disciplines relevant to mining operations and energy infrastructure.

Eligibility Criteria
You must meet all the following to qualify:
- South African citizen aged 16–25
- Accepted into or enrolled full-time for 2nd or 3rd year of Electrical, Mechanical, or Mining Engineering
- Attending an accredited South African tertiary institution
- Demonstrable financial need; no other bursary funding received
- Preference given to applicants residing in eMalahleni Local Municipality (Mpumalanga) and disadvantaged backgrounds
Applications not meeting all criteria are disqualified.
