About the Anglo American Coal Bursary
This bursary program is designed to empower South African students pursuing careers in fields crucial to the mining industry.
It offers comprehensive financial support to cover tuition fees, textbooks, laptops/computers, personal allowances, accommodation, meals, and even medical expenses on the company medical aid scheme.
This bursary goes beyond just financial support.
Students who haven’t begun their tertiary studies yet (completed or currently in Matric) are offered a unique opportunity to work alongside Anglo American’s professionals for a year.

Anglo American Coal Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Anglo American Coal Bursary, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen. Preference will be given to applicants from host communities.
- Have completed Matric or be currently in Matric.
- Be studying or be accepted to study for a relevant qualification in one of the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Geotechnical Engineering (entering 3rd or 4th year only)
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Ventilation (entering 3rd or 4th year only)
- Be studying at a recognized and accredited university in South Africa.
- Meet the specific academic requirements for your chosen field.
Specific Academic Requirements:
- 1st Year Students: Minimum of 60% for Mathematics/Technical Mathematics, Physical Science/Technical Science, and English in Matric.
- 2nd/3rd/4th Year Students: Must have passed all previously registered modules.
Anglo American Coal Bursary Application Requirements
Applications for the Anglo American Coal Bursary are submitted online.
Along with your application, you must submit clear copies of the following documents:
- Certified copy of your ID document
- Grade 11 results (stamped by your school) if currently in Matric
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate if completed
- Full academic record/transcripts if currently studying
- Proof of provisional acceptance if not yet studying
