About African Rainbow Minerals

African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) is a leading diversified South African mining and minerals company founded by Patrice Motsepe. 

It operates in mining sectors such as platinum, chrome, manganese, iron ore, nickel, and coal, and invests significantly in community development and education.

Fields of Study Funded

ARM supports full-time undergraduate students to honours level studies at select universities in these fields:

  • Chemical, Metallurgical, Industrial, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering, Geology
  • Accounting and Information Technology
    Supported universities include UCT, UP, SU, and NWU.

Benefits for Recipients

The bursary covers full tuition, registration, textbooks, a laptop, data allowance, accommodation, meals, and a monthly stipend. 

Recipients may also access vacation work placements and career development support.

Eligibility Criteria

You must meet all of the following:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed Matric
  • Be entering the 2nd year of Honours in 2026 in a supported field at UCT, UP, SU or NWU
  • Maintain a strong academic record (e.g., ≥ 65% average)
  • Be open to work-back or vacation work commitments with ARM
  • Not be currently funded by another bursary
    Applications that do not meet these conditions will not be considered.

  1. Compile all required documents in a single package.
  2. When asked where you heard about bursaries, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
  3. Submit your application by email to [email protected], with the subject line “ARM Bursary 2026 Application – [Your Name]”.
    No formal application form is required.

Provide certified copies of:

  • South African ID document
  • Matric certificate
  • University academic transcript (institution letterhead)
  • University acceptance or registration confirmation
    Applications missing documents may be disqualified.

Closing Date

The 2026 closing date has not been published yet. In 2025, the deadline was 31 January 2025.
