The Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSETA) uses the skills levies paid by farms, food processors and agri-businesses to fund training for the sector. Its bursary programme pays for students in agriculture-related qualifications at universities, universities of technology and TVET colleges, with a fixed annual amount that rises for postgraduates.

About the AgriSETA Bursary

Value: about R39 750 a year for undergraduates and R63 600 for postgraduates in the latest round, towards tuition and textbooks, with accommodation support and a stipend where applicable.
Fields: agriculture-related qualifications at NQF level 6 and above across the sector’s sub-industries: primary agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture, poultry, red meat, grain, milling, fruit processing, sugar, seed, coffee, tea and fibre, pest control, tobacco, rural development and green industries, plus agricultural economics, engineering and animal and plant sciences.
Institutions: recognised public universities, universities of technology and TVET colleges.
AgriSETA also funds internships and graduate placements through the same window.

AgriSETA Bursary eligibility requirements

South African citizen.
Enrolled or accepted at a recognised institution for an agriculture-related programme at NQF level 6 or above.
Demonstrated financial need.
Not receiving other government funding such as NSFAS for the same year.

How to apply for the AgriSETA Bursary

Download the bursary application form from agriseta.co.za once the window opens on 1 August.
Complete the form, including the funding amount requested, and attach a certified ID, Matric certificate, proof of acceptance or registration, academic results, a CV, a motivation letter and proof of household income.
Submit to AgriSETA or through your institution’s financial aid office, as the form directs, before 15 September. Results follow AgriSETA’s evaluation later in the year.
