Based in South Africa, the company operates major mines including Mogalakwena, Amandelbult, and Mototolo, and invests in community transformation and local skills development through its bursary programmes.

Funding is available for full-time study in these fields, relevant to mining operations and core skills:

• Analytical Chemistry, Finance & Accounting (through community scholarship streams)

Students from host communities near Anglo American Platinum operations may apply for bursaries in any field of study through a dedicated community scholarship stream.

Eligibility Criteria 

You must meet the following:

• Be a South African citizen
  
• For engineering, geology, metallurgical fields: Matric with at least 60 % in Mathematics, Physical Science, and English
  
• For finance/analytical chemistry: strong English and academic average (Science not mandatory)
  
• Registered or provisionally accepted for a full‑time qualification in one of the qualifying fields for 2026
  
• If applying via the community scholarship, you must provide proof of residence within 50 km of Anglo Platinum host areas (e.g., Mogalakwena, Mototolo, Amandelbult complexes)
  
• Demonstrate financial need and commitment to the mining or operational sectors
  Preference is given to applicants from the host and local communities.

How to Apply

1. Register or log in to the Valterra Platinum careers or bursary portal once applications open.
   
2. For community scholarship: select the option that allows “any field of study”.
   
3. Complete the online bursary application form
   
4. When asked “Where did you hear about bursaries?”, enter “www.bursariesafrica.co.za.”
   
5. Attach certified supporting documents as described below
   
6. Submit before the confirmed closing date
   Only full applications submitted online will be considered.

Ensure you upload certified copies of:

• South African ID document
  
• Matric certificate or latest Grade 11 results (if in Matric) stamped by school
  
• Academic transcripts if already at tertiary level
  
• Proof of registration or provisional acceptance for study in 2026

While the 2026 closing date is not yet officially announced, past deadlines fell between April and July 2025. 

In June 2024, the deadline was confirmed as 10 June, and other cycles closed on 31 July. Only applications received before the official closing date will be accepted.
