The City of Polokwane Bursary program aims to help deserving individuals like you by providing funding for your first year of undergraduate or National Diploma studies.

About the Bursary

The bursary is offered by the Polokwane Local Municipality (Limpopo, South Africa). 

It is intended to assist students who reside within the Polokwane municipal area and come from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

The bursary is for full-time study at recognized public universities, universities of technology or TVET colleges.

Fields of Study Funded

  • All fields of study are eligible. There is no restriction to scarce skills or particular disciplines.

Benefits for Recipients

  • Assisting with tuition or registration fees.
  • Helping with academic costs such as books or study materials.

Eligibility Criteria

You must satisfy all of the following:

  1. Be a South African citizen.
  2. Be a permanent resident within the Polokwane Municipality in Limpopo.
  3. Be in Matric, or have completed Matric.
  4. Be applying for or already studying your first Degree or National Diploma. You must not have another completed qualification at that same level.
  5. Be studying or intending to study at a public Higher Education Institution (University, University of Technology) or TVET College.
  6. Not currently receiving another bursary.
  7. Be from a disadvantaged background. Students with disabilities who meet these criteria are encouraged to apply.
  8. Household income (or parents/guardians’ income) is generally required to be below a threshold (e.g., less than ~R200,000 per annum in many adverts), though the exact limit for 2026 has not yet been confirmed.

How to Apply

  1. Download or collect the application form from Polokwane Municipality’s offices (Civic Centre, corner Landross Mare & Bodenstein Street, Offices 901/908; or ground floor) or via their website.
  2. Fill out the application form, and attach all required certified documents.
  3. Submit by hand delivery to the Civic Centre or via post to PO Box 111, Polokwane, 0700.

Required Documents

Include certified copies of:

  1. Your South African ID document
  2. Matric certificate (if completed Matric) or most recent Grade 12 results (if still in Matric)
  3. Proof of provisional admission/enrolment at a recognised tertiary institution (if already accepted)
  4. Proof of residence (e.g., municipal bills, letter from ward councillor or traditional authority) confirming residence in Polokwane Municipality
  5. Parents’ or guardians’ ID and proof of income (payslips, affidavit if unemployed)
  6. Death certificate (if applicable) if a parent is deceased.

Closing Date

The last announced deadline was 15 November 2024 for the 2025 academic year.

For 2026, no official closing date has been published yet in the sources I found.
